How To Use The BISSELL Steam Shot™: A Step-By-Step Cleaning Guide

Want to see the easiest way on how to use the BISSELL Steam Shot™ for yourself? Then follow along with our step-by-step cleaning guide on how to use BISSELL Steam Shot™ Handheld Steam Cleaner below.

Step 1: Select the ideal cleaning tool to use with your BISSELL Steam Shot™

The first step when using your BISSELL Steam Shot™ Handheld Steam Cleaner is to outline exactly how you’d like to use your Steam Shot™ for this cleaning session. As there are 9 different tools that come in the box with your BISSELL Steam Shot™, understanding how best to use each tool will naturally help you select the right one for each cleaning job.

These are the 9 tools that come included with your BISSELL Steam Shot™ and how best they can be used:

  1. Accessory nozzle – can be used alone, with extension hose, or with a tool attached
  2. Extension hose – for reaching into small or awkward spaces
  3. Grout brush – for cleaning tile grout, and scrubbing small cracks and crevice
  4. Fabric steamer – for refreshing and removing wrinkles on clothing or drapes
  5. Window squeegee – for glass and window cleaning
  6. Flat scraper tool – for loosening baked-on, stubborn messes
  7. Angle concentrator – for corners, edges, and window tracks
  8. 3 x colour-coded detail brush – comes in three different colours and can be used for scrubbing soiled areas in a variety of spaces.
  9. Brass bristle detail brush – a brass bristled detail brush tool for jobs that require heavier scrubbing (outdoor applications)
Step 2: Fill your BISSELL Steam Shot™ with clean water

Once you’ve selected your ideal cleaning tool, prep your BISSELL Steam Shot™ by filling its 360ml water tank with clean water. Start by pushing down on the safety cap while turning counter clockwise to open the tank with ease. Then fill the measuring cup that’s included in the box with your Steam Shot™ to the max fill line as displayed on your cleaning unit. Then replace the safety cap by pushing down while turning clockwise.

We recommend distilled or demineralised water when using your Steam Shot™ to reduce the risks of mineral deposits accruing in your water tank over time. Do not add anything except cool water to the tank of your Steam Shot™ either. Adding hot water may cause damage to the heating element and may void your warranty.

Step 3: Plug in your BISSELL Steam Shot™ and power on

With your cleaning tool in place and your water tank full, the next step is to plug your unit in at the wall to start up your BISSELL Steam Shot™. This will prompt the red indicator light of your BISSELL Steam Shot™ to power on.

Step 4: Allow 3-5 minutes for your BISSELL Steam Shot to heat up

Before you proceed, you’ll need to wait for your Steam Shot™’s red indicator light to turn off. This is because your unit’s indicator light will turn off once your heating element has done its job and the water in your Steam Shot™ tank is ready to be released as steam.

You can typically expect your Steam Shot™ to heat up in about 3-5 minutes, so just set your Steam Shot™ down on a flat surface and let it heat up before commencing with your cleaning job.

Step 5: Press the steam trigger to start cleaning with your BISSELL Steam Shot™

Push the blue ergonomic trigger of your BISSELL Steam Shot™ to release steam and start cleaning. The best method for using your BISSELL Steam Shot™ will depend on the cleaning tool you have attached as well as the surface you’re looking to clean.

For instance, when using the angle concentrator tool or the flat scraper tool, you can position your BISSELL Steam Shot™ either directly above the mess you’d like to clean or at a strategic angle for easily dispersing stubborn stains and debris.

Step 6: Power down and empty any excess water from water tank

Once you’ve completed your cleaning job, it’s time to unplug and power down your BISSELL Steam Shot™. If your water tank has emptied during cleaning and you’re looking to refill it’s recommended that you unplug your Steam Shot™ and leave it to cool for at least 5 minutes before attempting to handle its safety cap and open your unit’s tank. Waiting for your unit to cool down before refilling will help keep you safe as well as ensure that your unit’s heating element isn’t unnecessarily stressed.

If you’re all done with your cleaning job, simply pack up your Steam Shot™ once the unit has had a chance to cool and clean your tools, extension hose, or accessory nozzle as required.

How to Care for your BISSELL Steam Shot™ Steam Cleaner

As your BISSELL Steam Shot™ is designed to be used with no chemical cleaning solutions, it’s easy to keep your Steam Shot™ and its water tank in good health. However, to keep your BISSELL Steam Shot™ in good working condition, it’s recommended that you empty its water tank with every use.

It’s also important to familiarise yourself with the most common troubleshooting issues that may occur when using your BISSELL Steam Shot™ and they can both be identified by a lack of steam emerging from your steam nozzle. There are two troubleshooting issues you’ll need to keep in mind when cleaning with your Steam Shot™:

  1. Blocked steam nozzle – this issue can be rectified by unplugging your unit from the power outlet upon experiencing a potential blocked nozzle. After your unit has cooled, you can clear blockage by inserting a paperclip or other small clip into the brass spray tip to effectively clear any blockage.
  2. Emptied water tank – using your BISSELL Steam Shot™ on an empty tank can damage your heating element. If you suspect that your water tank has emptied, promptly unplug your BISSELL Steam Shot™ and leave it to cool for at least 5 minutes before refilling its water tank and powering back on.

It’s also recommended that you never put descaling, alcoholic, or detergent products into the steam cleaner, as this may damage it or make your Steam Shot™ unsafe for use.
